The artisanal sandwich shop LaMie has just opened its doors in Luxembourg City, on Longwy Road.
Behind the concept are two young women filled with energy who want to offer their clients top-quality sandwiches and, more importantly, extremely flavourful ones.
A Friendship Around the Sandwich
Both Emilie and Anne come from entrepreneurial families who are lovers of gastronomy. One pursued studies in luxury business and the other in business management, both with the same deep longing to create their own business. “I was always eating at a sandwich shop in Geneva (Edward’s Sandwiches), and had been dreaming about opening one ever since. It was while talking with Anne that she mentioned having the same idea.”
After two years of both brainstorming and training, Emilie and Anne opened LaMie (a play on the words for breadcrumbs in French “la mie” and for friendship in French “l’amitié”) a month ago.
A Unique Bread Made by Kaempff-Kohler
When talking about the traditional French sandwich, it is said to be a crispy baguette with airy and soft crumb. “The bread we had been tasting was not satisfying.” Thus, the young entrepreneurs decided to approach Christian Kaempff. “We gave them a recipe, and did many tests together to get the ideal bread.”
Two kinds are now used: the traditional baguette and the sourdough bread. We promise you, your teeth won’t be sore after biting into this crusty and soft bread!

High Quality for Their Artisanal Products
In light of the other ingredients, they come from small producers. “We tried to choose family businesses that share our values of quality and knowledge.” For the rest, everything is cooked here, from the dressings like hummus and tzatziki to the preserved veggies. For the desserts, the giant cookie is already seen as a best seller.
On the menu, there are 8 sandwiches (salmon, vegetarian, ham, rosette…) and a “tailor-made” option. Right now, the pastrami sandwich and “Le Poulette” are in favour. “We received a warm welcome; people come back, so we are happy,” they are delighted to say.
The sandwiches are priced between 8.80 and 13.40 euros. “The sandwich we serve is flavourful, generous, and gives a feeling of fullness and freshness,” specifies Emilie. “The proportion between the garnish and the bread was carefully worked out so that the tastes are respected.”

An Active Pursuit for a Place in the City Center
“At the moment, we make everything at Bertrand’s ‘Atelier de Cuisine’ to smoothly start, but we are looking to have our own place.” This is far from easy for the young entrepreneurs. “It is true that the prices charged and the refusal sometimes to have a catering business doesn’t help.” Emilie and Anne are positive, and they already imagine their own space with their own identity, neutral tones, natural and warm “to stay timeless.” We wish them success in finding this place and that their friendship—LaMie(tié)—can last.
For the moment, the sandwich shop on Longwy Road is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The Click and Collect service via their website, Wolt delivery, and corporate orders are also available.
