On Thursday, June 13, the international tourism industry gathered at MUDAM for the Luxembourg Tourism Summit. Organized by the Luxembourg City Tourist Office, this conference has been a key date in the industry calendar for several years.
Held at MUDAM in the Park Dräi Eechelen, the event brought together industry professionals to network and attend various expert lectures addressing crucial questions about the future of tourism. The presentations focused on two topics of paramount importance to the tourism sector: sustainability and artificial intelligence.
Through scientific lectures and networking opportunities, the conference looked ahead, addressing the pressing issues of tomorrow today.
The highlight was a lecture by the Luxembourg-born science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar. In his talk “Emil’s World – Life in the 22nd Century,” he philosophized about the future of communication and technology under the influence of artificial intelligence. Yogeshwar’s one-and-a-half-hour presentation flew by, thanks to his engaging and professional delivery.
Signe Jungersted, CEO and Founding Partner of Group NAO, spoke about strategic innovation in tourism, introducing projects like Time for DMOcracy and AI Opener for Destinations.
Professor Xavier Font from the University of Surrey highlighted the five benefits of sustainability marketing and communication, showing how targeted strategies can reduce environmental impacts while increasing customer satisfaction.
Leena Lassila, Director of Visitor Attraction at Helsinki Partners, showcased Helsinki’s journey towards sustainability and how the city promotes sustainable meetings and business events through innovative collaboration.
Janie Neumann, Senior Changemaker at the Global Destination Sustainability Movement, explained how the GDS-Index acts as a transformation platform, helping destinations become regenerative and resilient.
Professor Dr. Dr. Roman Egger from the Modul University Vienna and CEO of Smartvisions.at revealed the latest trends and applications of generative AI in tourism in his lecture “GenAI for Tourism – And What It Means to You!”
Joshua Ryan-Saha, Director of Traveltech at the University of Edinburgh’s Futures Institute, discussed the impacts of GenAI on the tourism and travel landscape and how data-driven innovations are transforming the industry.
The Luxembourg City Tourist Office was pleased with a full house and undoubtedly considered the event a success.
