Following on from the opening of Bao8 in the station district, a new address is now celebrating these deliciously soft white buns from Asia. The Bao Bar has opened in the heart of Clausen, rue de Neudorf, in pink premises with red neon lights. Let’s try some Bao!

The place is small, almost intimate. At night, the red neon lights outside guide customers inside. Two rooms welcome foodies in search of tasty dishes. In the first room, 3 or 4 tables of two guests can enjoy their Bao while glancing at the busy chefs in the open kitchen.
The adjoining room, in shades of pink and blue, is not much larger, giving the place an appreciable degree of intimacy. A mini-Buddha painted above the bar seems to be watching over the customers.
For the uninitiated, baos are sandwiches made from flour and yeast. Once the dough has been shaped into half-moons, they are steamed, giving them a soft texture and a chewy mouthfeel. The sandwiches are then opened on one side and filled mainly with meat and various condiments.

At Bao Bar, you come to eat Baos with a limited choice from the à la carte menu. Meat lovers will be won over by the “cochon-chic” bao, generously filled with ultra-tender confit pork, peanuts and homemade pickles. You’ll also fall for the Taiwanese-style shredded beef bao or the fried chicken ‘fiesta’ bao, which will have your taste buds dancing with its lime and honey mayonnaise.
Two baos on the plate that can be accompanied by a refreshing cucumber salad with a sesame and Thai basil dressing, or Chaofan rice with eggs and spring onions. We also liked the crispy, tasty fried oyster mushrooms, perfect for a lighter note.
If you’re a cocktail lover, try the gin and yuzu cocktail, tangy and addictive. A selection of craft beers and wines complete the drinks offer.
